A Day At The Races!
Just back from the CBK Grand National and Scurry. What a brilliant day out. Well organised with plenty of entertainment for wrinklies like Joy and me, children and grandchildren.
Food and drink in abundance and the excitement of the sweepstake! (I’m not normally a gambling man but temptation got the better of me. What a result! My horse came in first! Now I’m just deciding what to spend my 10p winnings on….)
Leaving Shanklin by Island Line the Lewis’s senior accompanied by grandchildren Jacob and Eben with Auntie Chloe in attendance joined the Steam Railway at Smallbrook then puff-puffed all the way to Ashey.
The whole journey, including connections took less than an hour and a half. (OK, I know we could have driven there in 20 minutes but that would have been too easy and not nearly so much fun!)
Dogs were petted and ponies oohed over. Some of the party got over-excited during the races but the threat of no dinner soon got Chloe to behave again!
Several ice-creams and other snacks-bad-for-your-teeth later we headed home on the last train.
At just £5.00 per adult (nothing for children) this must also be one of the Island’s best-value events. We’d never been before but are already looking forward to next year’s event. Highly recommended.
What’s this got to do with Avenue Road Dental Practice? Absolutely nothing, but sometimes it’s good to get away from the day-job, recharge our batteries and hopefully provide a better service for our patients when we’re back at work!
